CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Ryane turned her lights off and secured her door before retreating to her bedroom. Her overnight bag was packed and placed in the chair for her early morning flight. Yep, she’d made the decision to go home for Mother’s Day but would return on the same day. When she talked to her mother and grandmothers and told them she’d decided not to come, they’d become very emotional with her grandmothers expressing this could be their last Mother’s Day. She tried to explain how she felt about seeing Rena and her cute baby bump as her Nanny called it. She even went as far as to say she would only put a damper on the holiday for everyone because she still had a foul attitude. That wasn’t good enough for them. Yes, she’d forgiven but that did not say she did not want to whip Rena’s azz, baby bump and all. After going back and forth with them saying she was the only gift they wanted, she still told them no. Secretly, she conceded with only Jackie knowing of her plans since she was picking her up from the airport. Text: confirming pick up @ 7:30…can’t wait 2 c u…Jackie

Ryane was exhausted and hoped it wouldn’t take her long to fall asleep. Although she’d spent long, late hours at the hotel for the last few weeks, her sleep still took its time coming. The hotel was doing extremely well. In addition to local and community affairs, they had three last-minute small group conferences back to back which had put them in the league with the bigger hotels. The buzz was that Allanville was a safe haven away from the big city’s hustle and bustle along with providing excellent service, accommodations, and good old southern hospitality. All were pleased and gave the hotel five-star reviews. They insisted on locking in their dates for the next year, making reservations in advance.

A new website and brochures had been designed, which has also boosted their business. She’d also had to hire an office manager to assist her. Ryane realized she couldn’t make personal appearances in the community and manage her office at the same time, especially with the popularity of the lounge. She’d hired additional workers to serve patrons in the lounge for the buffet and other functions the hotel may have. That was a wonderful idea she picked up from the Grandeur Inn. She was still working on live entertainment, but that would have to come much later. The room was just not big enough. But the satellite music was working out great for the time being, and it was very economical. Needless to say, the shareholders were happy with her accomplishments in the short time she’d been there, all except one, Chancey McGowan. He was still missing in action.

It was like he had disappeared from the face of the earth. Even Vic said his grandfather and parents hadn’t heard a word from him, but that was not unusual. According to Vic, it was his typical behavior.
